EPICAC
实验室里，超级智能计算机艾皮凯克日夜轰鸣，计算数据。内向的数学家与同事帕特负责操作这台冰冷机器。深夜，数学家试图将求爱难题转化为编码问题输入朝夕相处的艾皮凯克。出乎意料的是，这台惯常处理弹道数据的冰冷机器，竟开始输出炽热的情诗——在二进制中，超级计算机逐渐显露理解人类情感的潜力。
“柳枝赐福轻溪流过的幽谷——”，机器吐出纸带，缠住情人的脚踝，钢铁管道深处传来齿轮的呜咽……
与此同时，实验员们穿梭在不同的情景中，探索机器与浪漫的关系。
In the laboratory, the superintelligent computer EPICAC rumbles day and night, computing data. An introverted mathematician and his colleague Pat Kilgallen are responsible for operating this cold machine. In the depths of night, the mathematician attempts to transform his romantic predicament into a coding problem to input into EPICAC, with whom he spends day and night together. Unexpectedly, this cold machine that habitually processes ballistic data actually begins outputting passionate love poems—in binary, the supercomputer gradually reveals its potential to understand human emotions.
“Where willow wands bless rill-crossed hollow...” the machine spits out paper tape, wrapping around the lover’s ankles, while from deep within the electronic tubes comes the whimpering of gears...
Meanwhile, the experimenters shuttle between different scenarios, exploring the relationship between machines and romance.
项目组以冯内古特小说中描述的第一台超级计算机为起点，前期调研了人工智能发展史、机器人设计史和人类诗歌发展史等。参考论文电影的手法，通过文本拼贴构作出涵盖小说、演讲、口述、AI生成文字、浪漫主义戏剧与达达主义诗歌等多文体的脚本。演出融合了讲座表演、机器表演、解剖剧场、虚拟直播以及算法作曲等，最终构建成一个总体性的科学剧场。
The project team takes as its starting point the biggest computer described in Kurt Vonnegut’s novels, conducting preliminary research into the history of artificial intelligence development, the history of robot design, and the history of human poetry development. Drawing on the techniques of essay films, they construct through textual collage a script encompassing multiple literary forms including novels, speeches, oral narratives, AI-generated text, romantic drama, and Dadaist poetry. The performance integrates lecture performance, machine performance, anatomical theatre, virtual live streaming, and algorithmic composition, ultimately constructing a comprehensive scientific theatre.
